The expansion has increased the capacity of the project, which has been operation since 2008, to 63MW.
The facility uses WCMG from Anglo American’s Moranbah North mine, which has signed a 25-year extension to its gas supply arrangements with EDL, including from its new Grosvenor metallurgical coal mine which is under construction.
EDL will provide network support services to state-owned Powerlink Queensland in the Bowen Basin under a two-year network support agreement, using the extra power generation from the expansion.
“The successful completion of this project, with no reportable occupational health and safety or environmental incidents over more than 35,000 hours worked – and two months ahead of the original schedule – highlights the company’s position as Australia’s leading waste methane to energy generator,” EDL managing director Greg Pritchard said.
EDL now has 253MW of WCMG power generation, following the acquisition of Envirogen’s 43MW portfolio in April.
Further expansion opportunities for the company are under discussion.
